How the GCC Boom is Strengthening Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision
As India approaches its centenary of independence, its vision for Viksit Bharat 2047—a developed, inclusive and innovation-led economy stands at the forefront of national ambition. One of the key drivers of this vision is the rise of Global Capability Centres (GCCs). With more than 1,600 GCCs contributing nearly US$60 billion to the economy, India is leveraging these centres as vital engines that align global business objectives with its long-term developmental goals.
The GCC boom is an important intersection where global goals driven by technology, equity and governance reinforce national priorities such as skill development, employment and sustainable growth. A recent report highlights that GCCs directly promote transparency, sustainability and innovation, positioning them as linchpins in India’s blueprint for 2047.
Government and industry have worked together to nurture this growth. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) recently called for a national policy framework. This framework aims to make India a hub for innovation-led GCCs. CII emphasised the need for structured governance, clear taxation and infrastructure investment. The key takeaway is that clear policy directions and industry-government alliances are essential to sustain the momentum in the GCC sector.
The Welingkar Institute of Management hosted a WeSchool roundtable that reinforced this alignment, bringing together GCC leaders, academics and policymakers to discuss the sector’s role in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
The core argument was clear: integrating sustainability, inclusion and skill development—principles foundational to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—into India’s corporate frameworks through GCCs is critical for sustained and inclusive growth.
Another report on India’s digital future emphasised the importance of transparent governance, ethical AI and digital empowerment. These are seen as key drivers of long-term competitiveness. Indian GCCs are putting these ideas into practice. They are creating models that balance innovation and responsibility.
Beyond economic impact, the GCC ecosystem fosters intellectual collaboration and sustainable innovation, investing in local talent and embedding global ethics to transform India into a knowledge-driven, globally aligned economy.
The GCC sector is now central to the nation’s economic transformation, connecting global expertise to domestic purpose. The success of Viksit Bharat 2047 hinges not just on policy reforms but on utilising this network of global capability centres to lead innovation, inclusion and resilience.
In essence, the growth of GCCs is more than industrial progress—it forms a key part of the country’s journey toward global leadership. Through their innovation networks, GCCs help India shape the future in line with Viksit Bharat 2047, one centre at a time.
