Deloitte employs 140,000 in India and plans further expansion, with Mangaluru among Tier II cities being considered for growth.

Global professional services firm Deloitte is planning to hire around 50,000 additional employees in India as part of its expansion strategy, with the country playing a central role in its global operations. Deloitte’s South Asia CEO, Romal Shetty, announced the plan at the TiEcon Mangaluru 2026 event, highlighting India’s growing importance in the firm’s global capability centre (GCC) strategy.

The company currently employs approximately 140,000 people in India, accounting for nearly a quarter of its global workforce. With the new hiring plan, Deloitte aims to further strengthen its presence in the country, particularly in Tier II and Tier III cities. Mangaluru is among the cities being evaluated for future expansion, with Shetty expressing confidence in the city’s potential, citing its talent pool and real estate fundamentals.

Shetty emphasised India’s dominance in the global GCC landscape, with around 50% of all global GCCs located in the country. He noted that future expansion would increasingly come from Tier II and Tier III cities, driven by their cost advantages, talent availability, and improving infrastructure.

However, Shetty also highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, particularly in areas such as energy and water requirements for data centres and high-compute facilities. To address these challenges, he proposed the creation of digital economic zones that integrate GCCs, GPU-based data centres, start-ups, and academic institutions, supported by ready infrastructure and coordinated policy support.
