Eisai Pharma, a human healthcare pharmaceutical major, has announced plans to set up a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Visakhapatnam. The announcement was made by Makoto Hoketsu, Global Chief Information Officer of Eisai Pharma, during his recent visit to India.

Global Capability Centers have become an integral part of India’s IT landscape, with many multinational companies setting up GCCs in the country to leverage its rich talent pool and favorable business environment. According to industry estimates, India is home to over 1,500 GCCs, employing over 1.3 million professionals. The GCC sector is expected to continue growing, driven by India’s strong IT infrastructure, government support, and availability of skilled talent.

Eisai’s GCC in Visakhapatnam will focus on digital transformation and innovation, with a strong emphasis on healthcare technology. Hoketsu emphasised the company’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation initiatives, with robust support from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ). The company aims to drive cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of the healthcare industry.

During his visit to GITAM Deemed to be University, Hoketsu interacted with GITAM’s president and other senior faculty members, exploring potential areas of collaboration. The institution has expressed interest in joint research activities and collaborative technology development in areas such as data science, healthcare technologies, and pharmaceutical research.

The establishment of Eisai Pharma’s GCC in Visakhapatnam is expected to contribute to the growth of the IT sector in the region. The GCC will leverage the city’s talent pool and infrastructure, and is likely to have a positive impact on the local economy.
