India’s GCC Sector Sees Boost as GlobalLogic Expands Services
Digital engineering firm GlobalLogic, part of the Hitachi Group, has witnessed a 60% year-over-year growth in business from Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India for the past three years, Business Line has reported. This growth is driven by GCCs’ increasing demand for external partners in product engineering.
“GCCs have evolved from mere back offices to product development hubs, and we’re a natural partner in this journey,” Piyush Jha, Group Vice-President and Managing Director, APAC, GlobalLogic told Business Line.
The company’s new office in Chennai, which can accommodate 500 professionals, aims to enhance collaboration with GCC clients and accelerate delivery timelines.
India has emerged as a premier destination for GCCs, with over 1,900 centers employing approximately 1.9 million people. The country’s large talent pool, favorable business environment and government support have contributed to its attractiveness. GCCs in India are shifting from cost arbitrage to innovation and strategic value creation, driving growth in sectors like technology, engineering and BFSI.
GlobalLogic plans to increase its workforce in Chennai by 20% by the end of 2025, taking the local headcount to over 1,000. The company aims to reach a global headcount of 35,000, with India contributing significantly to its growth. Despite macroeconomic challenges, GlobalLogic remains optimistic about its growth prospects, driven by demand from sectors like telecom, industrial, and healthcare.
Regarding the impact of AI on their workforce, GlobalLogic executives believe that India will play an increasingly important role in terms of scale and size. “We will continue to actively hire, and India will be a key growth driver for us,” said Jha.
GlobalLogic’s expansion in India reflects the growing importance of GCCs in the country’s tech ecosystem. With its strong talent pool, innovative GCCs, and favorable business environment, India is poised to remain a key destination for global companies looking to set up or expand their GCCs. As the GCC sector continues to evolve, companies like GlobalLogic are well-positioned to benefit from the growing demand for digital engineering services.
