Tamil Nadu’s growing GCCs, infrastructure and industry are energising tier-2 cities and positioning the state to advance India’s trillion-dollar goal.

Tamil Nadu has become a magnet for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with more than 250 centres established across the state, according to a report released by FICCI and the Anarock Group. The report, Real Estate & Infrastructure Driving Growth in Tamil Nadu, highlights the state’s growing prominence in the GCC sector.

Chennai alone hosts 10% of India’s GCCs, while Coimbatore ranks among the top tier-2 cities for GCCs in the country. The state is also home to 54 operational Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and 30 SIPCOT industrial parks. Major investments include Walmart’s second GCC in Chennai, which will add 4,500 technology roles, and Workday’s GCC facility, set up at a cost of ₹200 crore.

Chennai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region dominate India’s data centre landscape, accounting for over 70% of the country’s total data centre capacity. Coimbatore and Madurai are emerging as upcoming data centre hubs.

The state’s residential market is thriving, with more than 83,100 new units launched and 85,200 units sold between 2021 and the first nine months of 2025, according to Anarock Research. Mid-end projects priced between ₹40–80 lakh account for 43% of the total supply.

Tamil Nadu is poised to contribute significantly to India’s goal of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2030, driven by GCCs, infrastructure development and industrialisation. Key tier-2 cities such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Salem are witnessing rising interest, reflecting the state’s balanced and broad-based growth pattern.

“The state is gearing up on all fronts to contribute significantly to India’s vision of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2030,” said Anuj Puri, Chairman of the Anarock Group. “GCCs are coming into the state in large numbers, and this will be the best year for the sector.”
