Telangana Aims to Become Global Leader in Emerging Technologies
The Telangana government is working to position the state as a global leader in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology, according to Sanjay Kumar, Special Chief Secretary (Information Technology). Kumar made the announcement at the GCCX Hyderabad conference, which was organised by 3AI and Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA).
“The state government is focused on driving growth through innovation and research and development (R&D) engagement,” Kumar said. This effort is part of Telangana’s broader vision to achieve a US$1-trillion economy, with the IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) sector playing a key role.
Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Telangana are increasingly leveraging AI to drive growth and efficiency for their parent organisations, according to Sameer Dhanrajani, CEO of 3AI. “AI-native GCCs are emerging as a key driver of growth for parent organisations,” Dhanrajani said.
Hyderabad continues to be a preferred destination for next-generation capability centers due to its strong IT research and innovation ecosystem, infrastructure, and government support, according to Prashanth Nandella, President of HYSEA.
The conference also featured presentations from companies such as McDonald’s, which is using AI and technology to improve order accuracy and efficiency in its restaurants. The company has implemented Generative AI in approximately 400 restaurants and is undertaking a large-scale cognitive transformation across its global operations.
Durga Prakash, a senior McDonald’s executive, provided a specific example of how McDonald’s leveraged Generative AI to ensure order accuracy in busy restaurants, preempting errors before orders reach the customer. “Generative AI has been implemented in approximately 400 McDonald’s restaurants. McDonald’s is undertaking a large cognitive transformation journey across 40,000 restaurants,” he said.
Besides McDonald’s, companies such as Heineken and Vanguard Group also have a presence in Hyderabad.
