Eli Lilly’s New GCC Strengthens Hyderabad’s Position as Global Hub for Healthcare Innovation: Telangana CM
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday inaugurated US pharma major Eli Lilly’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, which will focus on artificial intelligence, automation, cloud computing, and software product engineering to support innovation in drug discovery and delivery. The new centre is expected to further establish Hyderabad as a global hub for healthcare innovation, supported by scientific talent and international collaboration.
The 2,20,000 sq.ft. Hyderabad facility will power Eli Lilly’s global operations by strengthening digital capabilities and accelerating innovation in key areas like AI, automation, and cloud computing. The centre has already onboarded 100 professionals and plans to expand its headcount to 1,500 over the next few years.
“Hyderabad has become the preferred global destination for cutting-edge capability centres of the world’s top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies,” Reddy said, adding that the city is the life sciences capital of India with over 2,000 companies. The Chief Minister said the GCC growth in Hyderabad aligns with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision and will help the state achieve its roadmap to become a US$1 trillion economy.
“We are proud that one in every three vaccines administered anywhere in the world is developed or manufactured in Hyderabad,” Reddy added. He described the new centre as a “nerve-centre” for Eli Lilly, which will manage, lead, and accelerate the company’s global operations from Hyderabad.
Diogo Rau, Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Digital Officer, Eli Lilly and Company, said Hyderabad’s combination of technical expertise and collaboration makes it an ideal location for the GCC. “The expansion will bring together talent in AI, data science, and engineering to build the digital foundation needed to accelerate drug discovery and delivery,” he said.
The new centre will integrate Lilly’s advanced technology capabilities across key functions, supporting accelerated innovation, enhanced efficiency, and improved health outcomes for patients globally. The facility will also create opportunities for local talent and advance Hyderabad’s biotech ecosystem.
Reddy praised the Eli Lilly workforce in Hyderabad, saying, “You are not just living and working in Hyderabad – you are now part of our family. You are shaping the future of global healthcare from Hyderabad.” The Chief Minister’s comments underscore the city’s growing importance as a hub for healthcare innovation and its potential to drive growth and development in the region.
