Fortune 500 Companies’ India GCCs are Evolving into Second Headquarters: ANSR Report
The world’s largest and most influential enterprises are rapidly reshaping their global operating models through Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India. Fortune Global 500 companies aren’t just adapting to disruption, they’re shaping the future of enterprise from their GCCs in India, says a new report.
These centres have evolved into intelligent, AI-native hubs that are not only scaling innovation but redefining how global businesses operate. As digital twins of the headquarters, they are leading platform modernization, creating IP, and driving real-time, enterprise-wide decisions. With the rise of agentic AI and hyperconnected ecosystems, GCCs in India are no longer back offices. They have become the command centres of tomorrow’s global enterprise.
The report, jointly done by ANSR with research firm UnearthInsight, examines the operating models, talent trends, and innovation maturity across 174 Fortune 500 companies that have established over 390 centres across India. These centres now employ 950,000+ professionals, with a growing share of global functional leadership based in India.
“This evolution is accelerating. With access to India’s deep pool of digital talent, modern infrastructure, and an ecosystem that encourages collaboration with academia and startups, GCCs are achieving in months what once took years. Many of the world’s most respected enterprises are now viewing their GCCs as strategic assets. These centres are taking ownership of intellectual property, leading global initiatives, and delivering measurable impact across business units,” Vikram Ahuja Co-Founder, ANSR and CEO, 1Wrk, said in the foreword to the report.
These GCCs are evolving into second headquarters, housing senior functional leaders with global P&L responsibilities, and serving as global Centres of Excellence for AI, GenAI, cybersecurity, and product engineering, the report said.
Bengaluru and Hyderabad are the dominant hubs, hosting over 200 GCCs and employing more than 560,000 professionals for Fortune 500 enterprises.
The sectoral strength of GCCs in India is broad-based, with BFSI (21%), Retail/CPG (14%), Healthcare (12%), and Automotive (11%) leading in GCC adoption, reflecting India’s ability to support both tech and domain-intensive operations. These centres have become intelligent, AI-native hubs that are not only scaling innovation but redefining how global businesses operate.
“India’s GCC evolution has given Fortune Global 500 companies a sharp competitive edge. By granting their Indian GCCs greater autonomy and embedding them in global strategy, these organizations unlock new levels of agility and innovation. Upcoming GCCs can leverage the transformation playbook of existing Fortune 500 GCCs to successfully establish and scale their presence in India,” Gaurav Vasu Founder and CEO, UnearthInsight, said.
