Daikin is positioning India—one of its key markets—as a global hub for manufacturing and exports, with projected revenue of ₹12,500 crore for FY25.

Japanese air-conditioner manufacturer Daikin has launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Gurugram, India, as part of its strategic initiative to tap into the country’s technological expertise and skilled workforce.

Developed in partnership with consulting firm EY, the Daikin Innovation and Services Hub will focus on advancing competencies in information technology, digital services, data management, finance, artificial intelligence and allied domains, according to a recent report by The Economic Times.

The centre will be located in Gurugram and is expected to employ approximately 700 professionals. The initiative aims to build critical capabilities in India, rather than serving as a cost-reduction mechanism, underscoring Daikin’s long-term commitment to the country as a capability powerhouse. The hub is envisioned as a foundation for an expansive, large-scale GCC in India in the coming years.

India represents one of Daikin’s most important markets, with the company projecting revenue of ₹12,500 crore in FY25. Beyond domestic success, Daikin is positioning India as a global manufacturing and export hub, shipping air-conditioners to emerging markets across Africa, South America, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan.

The establishment of the GCC reflects Daikin’s deepening commitment to India, demonstrated by its investment in local production of key components, including compressors and the construction of an export-focused facility in Sri City. KJ Jawa, Managing Director of Daikin India, holds a significant position as the only non-Japanese executive on the parent company’s board in Japan, highlighting India’s growing influence within the corporate structure.

The success of this project is expected to pave the way for more GCCs in India, with the Indian business set to play a bigger role in the parent company. This initiative underscores the evolving strategic outlook of the Japanese conglomerate towards innovation and localisation in India.
