Best Buy, the US electronics retail giant, plans to expand its workforce at its Bengaluru Global Capability Centre (GCC) by over 40% in the coming months. The company currently employs around 350 people in its India tech centre and aims to grow its team to 500-550 employees.

The Bengaluru GCC, which was opened in 2024, focuses on driving innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital commerce. Best Buy’s expansion plans reinforce Bengaluru’s position as a leading destination for global capability centres, with over 1,600 GCCs already operating in India.

Best Buy’s Bengaluru Global Capability Centre will focus on several key areas, including developing cutting-edge retail technology for its global operations through AI and data science. The company will also enhance its cloud-based retail logistics and e-commerce platforms through cloud infrastructure development. Additionally, Best Buy will be hiring for various digital technology roles, such as machine learning engineers, software engineers, and UX designers.

According to Nithya Subramanian, Senior Director, Data & AI Centre of Excellence, the company will be hiring across functions, with a strong emphasis on digital and technology roles. This expansion is part of Best Buy’s strategy to tap into India’s growing talent pool for its global operations.

India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) market is also witnessing significant growth, with projections indicating it will reach US$105 billion by 2030, up from US$64.6 billion in fiscal 2024. Bengaluru, in particular, has established itself as a hub for top tech companies, hosting numerous R&D hubs for major companies like Amazon, Walmart, Google, and Microsoft. The city’s unmatched pool of engineers and data scientists makes it an attractive destination for global companies looking to set up or expand their GCCs.
