Karnataka government’s new technology park in Mangaluru is part of its broader strategy to promote regional technology clusters and decentralise IT growth beyond Bengaluru.

The Karnataka government has taken a significant step towards establishing a technology park in Mangaluru, a move aimed at enhancing the region’s technological infrastructure and attracting diverse IT companies.

The Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (KEONICS) has invited tenders for the establishment of a commercial technology park on a 3.285-acre land situated along Blueberry Hills Road in Mangaluru. The project, valued at ₹135 crore, will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) basis under a public-private partnership model.

According to N. Manjula, Secretary, Karnataka Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and Science and Technology, the proposed technology park is expected to boost the IT ecosystem in the region, creating significant growth and job opportunities. The project is anticipated to generate over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs, bolstering the economic growth of the region.

The development comes as Mangaluru is emerging as a key destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with some nano GCCs already setting up units in the Mangaluru-Udupi region. The city has seen an increase in enquiries for office space in the IT sector, attributed to the availability of IT infrastructure and talent pool.

Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM), said many companies have set up their base in Mangaluru in the past few years, including a foreign company that has established a research and development centre.

The Karnataka government’s initiative to establish a technology park in Mangaluru is part of its broader strategy to promote regional technology clusters and decentralise IT growth beyond Bengaluru. The project is expected to position Mangaluru as a key tech and innovation hub on India’s western coast, complementing Karnataka’s digital economy goals.
