Citizens Bank Establishes New Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad to Drive Digital Transformation
Citizens Bank has announced the launch of its new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, India, marking a significant step in its global technology expansion and digital transformation strategy.
The centre, set up in partnership with Cognizant, will focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and automation. With over 300 professionals already hired, the bank plans to expand its workforce to around 1,000 employees by April 2026, according to a report in Business Line.
“We want a truly global workforce that enables 24/7 development,” said Michael Rutledge, Chief Information Officer and Head of Technology Services at Citizens Financial Group. “The move is driven by an urgent need for speed and talent that local markets alone cannot satisfy.”
The GCC will play a pivotal role in the bank’s digital modernisation agenda, with key projects including :
– Digital Banking Platforms: Development of a new mobile banking platform and cloud-based account opening system
– Data Ecosystem: Support for the bank’s AWS-based data ecosystem
– Payment Processing: Teams in India will support critical functions such as payment processing, commercial banking platforms, and risk and finance platforms
The Hyderabad location was chosen for its deep technology ecosystem and access to a strong academic network, with over 40 colleges providing a pipeline for fresh talent.
As part of its corporate responsibility efforts, Citizens Bank will participate in initiatives aimed at empowering girls from rural and underprivileged communities to pursue education and careers in technology through Cognizant’s Outreach Programme.
“Significant development will take place here,” Rutledge emphasised, highlighting the strategic investment in future-ready talent and innovation.
