The fashion giant continues to deepen its Indian presence, while Bengaluru strengthens its position as a strategic hub for global retail GCCs.

Today, India is recognised as one of the leading innovation hubs for global brands such as Neiman Marcus, IKEA, H&M, and Albertson Companies, with about 30% of global retail and consumer packaged goods (CPG) giants having chosen the country as the base for their Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

Recently, the American fashion and lifestyle brand, Ralph Lauren, has set up its primary GCC headquarters in Bengaluru to build its technology and business capabilities in the country. Ralph Lauren has appointed Tathagat Varma as the Vice President and Head of the centre. Varma was the former Global Tech-Ops Leader for Walmart and the former Country Manager for NerdWallet. His expertise and skill in the field give a significant technical advantage for Ralph Lauren, as he oversees the company’s primary capability hub.

“I’m excited to start my new job as Head of Global Capability Centre, India with Ralph Lauren,” Varma said in a recent LinkedIn post.

In his post, he further pointed out the ever-growing popularity Ralph Lauren has and the mark it has left in the global fashion industry. “Reflecting a distinctive American perspective, we have been an innovator in aspirational lifestyle branding and believe that, under the direction of internationally renowned designer Ralph Lauren, we have had a considerable influence on the way people dress and the way that fashion is advertised and celebrated throughout the world,” he noted.

Ralph Lauren’s investment in the country and Varma’s appointment underscore India’s growing role in driving innovation, technology and business transformation for leading global brands.
